Tonight we will discuss getting our bees, hives and equipment ready for winter.
Bio for John:
I’ve been keeping bees since I was a young teenager over 40 years ago. My story is a little different than most since I hated working with bees when I started. I helped my dad with his hobby/business in Iowa, and initially did not understand why anyone would want to mess with stinging bugs! The more I learned, the more fascinated I got and the interest stuck.
Now in Oregon I have been a member of the Portland Metro Beekeeping Assoc. since 2014 and the Tualatin Valley Beekeepers Assoc. since 2020. I am also an active mentor for the Portland Master Beekeeping program and a member of OSBA. I am the current instructor for Portland Metros yearly beekeeping class at Clackamas College and have ongoing classes and workshops for beekeepers thru-out the year at our location on Stafford Road.
I’m currently teaching beekeeping at Portland Community College at Rock Creek one day a week along with managing 40-50 colonies in my full-time business “Our Biz is BEES”. I also make and sell woodenware and stock beekeeping tools to give beekeepers in the Portland area a local source.
