Meetings

We meet on the second Thursday of each month at 7pm except in August (we have a picnic) and December (we have a party).  We are now doing hybrid meetings so you can choose to come in person or participate via Zoom.  We  meet  at  Creator Lutheran Church, 13250 SE Sunnyside Rd in Clackamas,

 Bee Day!

Thank you all for coming out and participating in our annual Bee Day! It's always one of the highlights of the year.  Thank you to the Hansens for once again hosting this event at the Foothills Honey Company.  It was sure great to see so many new beekeepers getting a chance to see the bees! Also a shout out to Andony Melathopoulos and John Rockrohr for great lectures!

Club Apiary 2026

Our  "Sweet Ass Learning Apiary" at the Oregon Donkey Sanctuary will have its next learning day on May 30th, 2026. Register HERE for May !

Monthly meetings will be topical training based on the beekeeping season, on the last Saturday of each month.  This apiary is a great way to get hands-on experience with honeybees. Sign ups for the sessions will start approximately one month before each one and close the Thursday before.  The program is designed for beginning to intermediate beekeepers to learn about hive management strategies for the month. This is a casual, loosely structured gathering intended to provide a learning experience in a relaxed setting.

Swarm Hotline

Pacific Northwest Honey bee Survey

The 18th annual Pacific Northwest Honey Bee Survey is Now Open at http://www.pnwhoneybeesurvey.com/survey.  All PNW beekeepers who overwintered colonies are invited to share information on their overwintering successes/losses.  The survery also accepts information on management to reduce losses but respondents can skip these sections. 


BEE SCHOOL

Thank you John Rockrohr of "Our Biz is Bees" for teaching our annual Bee School at Clackamas Community College. We're looking forward to meeting the new beekeepers!


MAY  Meeting

At our meeting next Thursday, our very own David Martinez will be giving a presentation on how to capture swarms—because nothing says “fun” like chasing 20,000 bees up a tree with a cardboard box and a lot of confidence.

Whether you’re a seasoned beekeeper or someone who thinks “swarm control” involves running in the opposite direction, David will show you how to safely and successfully collect swarms. Come learn how to turn a hanging ball of bees into a free colony. 

Queen REaring Course

Back by popular demand is our queen rearing course.  This will be a 3 part course using grafting techniques combined with Cloake boards.  The first session is on Friday May 15th at 7pm via Zoom. This is a didactic session where we will go over the details of how to raise queens.  This is free and open to the public.  The link is HERE.  The other sessions will be hands on and limited to 10 people.  If more than 10 people register, then we will have a lottery on May 1st to select participants and alternates. Those selected and alternates will be notified in 1-2 days by email.  There are several pre-requisites for the hands on sessions.

  1. 4-5 years of beekeeping experience
  2. Able to attend both hands on sessions on May 17th and May 31st from 1-3pm
  3. Able to pick up queen cells on June 10th
  4. Able to bring your own 1 day old larvae to practice and to graft.
  5. Cost is $50 payable at the first hands on session if selected.
  6. Must be a club member
The course instructors are Paul Stromberg and Joe Maresh and the in person classes will be in Milwaukie. You can register HERE. Depending on success rate, individuals can expect to get 1-2 queen cells.  It will be up to each individual to set up mating nuc(s) at their own apiary just prior to queen cell arrival. 

CLUB EXTRACTOR

 Our extractors and extracting equipment loaning is now done for the year.  It was used more than ever before.  Thanks to Nancy for managing it for us this year. It will be available again next year starting in June.   Learn more about it HERE
