Club Apiary 2025
Come learn about honey bees at our "Sweet Ass Learning Apiary" at the Oregon Donkey Sanctuary. This is a great way to get hands-on experience with honeybees. It will usually be on the last Saturday of each month. Sign ups for the sessions will start approximately one month before each one and close the Thursday before. You can sign up on our website HERE. The program is designed for beginning to intermediate beekeepers to learn about hive management strategies for the month. This is a casual, loosely structured gathering intended to provide a learning experience in a relaxed setting. Upcoming events
| Annual PicnicSave the date on August 16th. The picnic this year will be at Oaks Park, picnic area 6. More details to come! Backyard Beekeeping Ban DiscussionThis month's club speaker was Andony Melathopoulos. His talk, "Should Portland Ban Beekeeping?" - The Willamette Week Article and Discussion on Beekeeping in Urban Spaces was very enlightening. View the whole talk HERE. Here is the link to the Extension piece he and Ramesh Sagili wrote in response to the Willamette Week article: https://extension.oregonstate.edu/catalog/em-9524-impact-beekeeping-native-bees-urban-settings. The plant-pollinator site that he mention can be found at melittoflora.org. These resources are a great opportunity for local beekeepers to become better educated about interactions between honey bees and wild bees in our setting. Let's work together to help both honey bees and native bees and not be divisive. Special Guests at our Apiary in JuneThank you Caroline Breece and Dewey Caron for coming out to our apiary. Our next day in the apiary will be July 26th and you can sign up HERE. Bee Day Was a great SuccessIt certainly take a village.
